At Capital Power we are dedicated to supplying the high quality electrical contracting services to both domestic and commercial clients. The work we provide will always be to a high standard and we make sure to consider electrical safety values in everything we do.

What we find is equally important is helping individuals and businesses to take health and safety around electricals as seriously as we do and make them aware of the very simple steps they can take to avoid damage or even death. The use of electrical goods has become so common place in 21st Century living that we sometimes are complacent around appliances that can cause us harm.

Safety around electricals will never really change and much of the advice we give is common sense. We feel it makes sense to reiterate the points though, to keep them fresh in your mind. Below we recap some of the basics, though this doesn’t make them any less crucial to protecting you and others.

Let’s face it, we get all get into bad habits, especially when it comes to using electricals. Here are some of the more important things to remember at home and at work:

1. The most important and top of the list is to use qualified tradesmen and contractors when having electrical work performed. Ask for relevant certification and perform background checks with the organisations they claim to be a part of. A DIY fix isn’t always the answer and a little extra money is nothing compared to safety.

2. Make sure to never overload a plug socket with multiple appliances. The more you ask of a single point, the higher the heat that will be developed. Heat can equal electrical fires, so make sure you are evenly spread.

3. Keep electricals away from water. You may think this is obvious but it isn’t always obeyed. We don’t just mean ‘stop ironing in the bath’ either, as just having wet hands when handling an appliance can prove equally dangerous. Stay dry.

4. When you aren’t using them it makes sense to turn off appliances. This isn’t just great for safety but lowering bills too, and a useful habit to fall into. If you are away for an extended period make sure that every appliance in the house is unplugged. This isn’t just an old wives tale, electrical fires can happen if not monitored.

5. If a cord, plug or socket is damaged then replace it. Don’t keep on using it, each time thinking ‘I must get this replaced’. Safety must come above inconvenience.

So there we go. A few of the basics that we should all remember. If you are having any problems with your electricals, or need more advise on installation, then get in touch today and speak to a member of our team about how Capital Power and Data can help.

LED Lighting – The Efficient Option

In the past 12 months there has been a huge increase in the amount of LED light bulbs being made available, with quality increasing and prices dropping. They are now mainstream enough to be found in both domestic and commercial property around the country but if you are still unconvinced about whether LED lighting is for you then hopefully this post will help you make the switch to more energy efficient bulbs.

The way that LED lighting has progressed has been phenomenal. When they were first released people were initially, and quite rightly, put off by the sheer dullness of the bulbs that were being sold. Sure you saved energy but it was quite easy to see why, with very little light being emitted. Thankfully they have come a long way since then and have now been developed to fit almost any fitting, from domestic lamps and fridges, to commercial car parks or office spaces.

Although the quality of light remains high regardless of which LED bulb you use, the colour of the emitted light does vary. This means that you can choose how your space is lit, from warming reds and oranges, to cooler looking blues and whites. Whether for your home or commercial property, finding the right light colour for the area can be incredibly important to how well you adjust to LED lighting.

Energy meters are becoming more and more popular in homes too, as people look to reduce their energy consumption. What you will find with traditional and dated halogen bulbs is that your lighting will make up a huge proportion of your bills, especially during the winter and at night. By choosing a LED bulb you can massively reduce these costs and will immediately feel the difference in your monthly bill.

One way in which Halogen and LED vary is in the heat that they give out. A Halogen bulb will emit high temperatures throughout the year, which in summer means wasted energy and in winter nothing more than warm ceilings. The price will also vary, though in reality this is becoming less and less obvious the more advanced LED lighting gets. Whatever the price, LED’s are a long term investment that save you vast sums on your bills, compared to Halogen lights that may save you a few pounds on your bulbs.

We recommend LED lighting in every project we deliver, both domestic and commercial, as we truly believe in the energy and money saving properties they have. Speak to us today about how LED can be a benefit to you too and choose a more economical way to light up your space.

One of our more recent projects at Capital Power and Data was our work with the UK branch of the global Creative Solutions Company, Cheil. Cheil as an organisation are focused on ‘Ideas That Move’, helping their clients to overcome challenges by supplying targeted Marketing Solutions across a range of digital and offline media platforms.

A Korean brand that was founded in 1973, they are able to offer full service advertising on a global scale, with 42 branches in 35 countries across the planet. The UK branch, located at the Crane Building in Lavington Street, near to the Blackfriars Bridge in Central London, is no different. These ‘Oversees Professionals’ offer equally specialist Marketing Expertise to businesses here in the United Kingdom, from advertising to retail and digital services.

The Cheil offices at the Crane Building needed to reflect the same principles as their brand; innovation, professionalism and high quality. We worked hard to provide them this and did so successfully across all floors of the building that the company occupied, from the Ground to the 3rd, where Cheil UK are based.

We supplied a range of services to complete the build across all floors, which included:

a) Incoming Electricity Supply

b) Main and Sub-main Switchgear

c) Distribution Equipment

d) Small Power Systems Installation

e) Tea Point Power Systems Installation

f) Lighting Systems Installation

g) Emergency Lighting Systems Installation

h) Earthing and Bonding

i) Data & Telecommunications

Some of the elements of these services included installing Small Power Systems that included power supplies for cleaner’s points, wall sockets, floor boxes and for plasma installation in office and meeting rooms.

We included Lighting and Emergency Lighting System installation, modifying existing circuits and fittings in order to adhere to design specifications, as well as bringing in several new circuits in order to comply with safety regulations.

The project as a whole was an incredibly enjoyable one to be a part of, as working with such an enthusiastic and energetic company gave us great insight into their company ethos that we could then reflect in the services we provided them.

Above is just a summary of some of the areas that we were involved in. We are more than happy to provide you with a full description of each service should you wish, to understand in more detail the exact specifications of the project. Either contact us through our website or call us directly to speak to a dedicated member of our team, to talk about projects we have completed, or your own personal requirements.
